Open Question: I want to live in a nice small town in Tennessee?any ideas?
any nice small towns in Tennessee. where the view is great. and its very SOUTHERN. where there’s a ton of land and beautiful scenery. and a small town where everyone is kinda like family. and where you can just play music on the front porch till midnight. i want a good place to raise my son. hes not born yet but the time i find a place, and house and everything. he will be a little baby. probably between 4-7 months the time we move. i want a nice place to raise him. where he can appreciate the little things in life. where he can ride horses and always feel free. I don’t want him to live so materialistic. i live in williamsburg va now. and the kids at my church are just so lazy. on beautiful day when its not cold and not hot just around the 60’s and the suns out. they just sit on the floor for hours playing psp and nintendo ds that’s not what i want for my child. i want him to appreciate life like i do. and grow up around horses and chickens and cows lol. and enjoy the beautiful things that make up life. i will still let him watch television and go on the computer. but you know what i mean. i used to live in town where we would play outside everyday. and run around town and making up our own games. and swimming in rivers and lakes. and we loved to ride ponies and horses. but ofcourse that place has changed since i was 5 and they put up all these malls and devolopments. besides it had no beautiful scenery
Voting Question: What do you think about this short horror story?
I had a dream that I just HAD to write about. It was so vivid and real. Anyway, here it is and tell me what you think about it:
An old, rusty warehouse loomed over a lake, its back to the sun. Its shadow was much darker than the others surrounding it. John felt drawn to it and he proceeded to turn the knob of the rusty door. To his surprise, he found the warehouse occupied with quite a number of people. John looked around. A staircase lead to a second floor, the first floor was dirty and barren, there was no furniture, and everything screamed, “Haunted house!” However, the people were much worse. John only recognized three people. One was his mom, another was a friend named Ryan, and the last was another friend named Sarah. Their clothes were shabby and torn, their faces were pale, they seemed to radiate sadness and all they did was sit. John walked around for a little bit but nobody seemed to care that he was here. His curiosity of the second floor grew but he didn’t “man up” enough to go up there.
Instead, he asked Sarah, “What happened here? Why are you guys like this?” Sarah gave John a gloomy stare and answered, “Only if you push that button over there will you know.” John looked and found a black button on the other side of the room, set on a pedestal. “That wasn’t there before,” John said to Sarah. Sarah shrugged and resumed her previous fetal position. At this point, John became very timid. His thoughts started conflicting with each other, “Push the button. NO! It’s a bad idea! Just look what happened to them! But aren’t you curious? Just push it. One push won’t do anything…” John walked over to the other side of the room and looked at the shiny, black button. It was so enticing. He looked over his shoulder to make sure nobody was looking. Indeed, everyone had his or her head down. “Just one quick push,” thought John. He quickly pressed the black button.
The lights went out. John turned around but saw nothing; it was pitch black. He turned around again, only to find that the button and the pedestal were gone. In their place was a window. He saw through the window that it was night outside. An ominous fog loomed past his view. “Wait, what? Wasn’t it bright and sunny before I came here? I’ve only been here for a short while too,” thought John. He turned back around and called out, “Can anyone hear me?”
No answer.
“Alright! Joke’s over. The button was a light switch. Big deal! Someone turn the lights back on.”
No answer.
At this point, John was getting very worried. He took a big breath and took one step forward, and then another, and then another, and then another. Suddenly, a single light bulb came on, illuminating only him. It wasn’t very bright and was comparable to a dim and fading flashlight. In the dim spotlight, John made out a hand by his foot. A little scared, he half-jumped away from it. That’s when the lights came back on. To John’s horror, everybody was face-down, lying on the floor, cold, unmoving, and all in their own pools of blood.
“Okay guys. Not funny…” said the shocked John. To worsen the matter, the blood was rapidly spreading and covering the floor. And to even further worsen the matter, the blood was filling up the room like how one would fill up a bathtub with water. John hurriedly tried all the doors but they were locked. He noticed the warehouse was also suddenly different. The walls were pure, reddish-orange, metallic rust. A metallic clang resounded in the warehouse as if someone was pounding an axe onto a metal grating. The staircase was also gone. In its place was a door that was also locked. Ankle-deep in blood, frantically searched for an exit. One of the people slowly got up and John stopped dead in his tracks. He probably would have been a little relieved that someone got up except for one fact, the man was faceless. The others rose and revealed their facelessness. As one, they faced John, hands outstretched towards him, and slowly trudged towards him. Their muffled screams sounded from their now non-existent mouths. John pressed his back against the new staircase door and desperately turned the knob. It opened. John hurried in and slammed the door behind him. He saw the new room and froze. He didn’t know which one was worse: the bloody room full of faceless people, or this room.
This room was full of sharp objects, each apparently used on something for they were all bloodsoaked. There were meathooks hanging from the ceiling, sharp spikes from protruding from the walls, and the center of the room had a table with meat cleavers of every size and shape. A hulking man was inspecting the knives. Then…
I woke up.
Resolved Question: How can we work out our religious and cultural issues?
We’re in our mid 20s. Known her for a year, we’re very close friends, but I do want a relationship. She’s an Indian Sikh, and I am a Chinese Christian. My family has no issues with interfaith/racial; but her father does. When she was 18, he sent her overseas for a year because he didn’t like her bf, and he was the same race and religion! When I picked her up for the first time for dinner, her father thought I was the son’s friend, and was very nice; until he found out I was picking her up, then his demeanor changed. She use to be truthful to him, telling him who was picking her up. Putting it nicely, he’s traditional. But he’ll continually ask her why she’s seeing me; my name comes up if they’re having an argument that doesn’t even involve me; so now she just sneaks out of the house, or lies about who’s picking her up (which she doesn’t like). Whenever he sees my car, he gets upset. So now I park a block away to pick her up, but she refuses to show any affection, even a hug when we’re in her neighborhood, because she’s afraid her neighbors might see. She’s even weary of getting in my car when she see’s someone of her religion around, even if she doesn’t know him. But after I pick her up, we usually do something downtown, maybe have dinner, a walk in the park, or sitting by the lake…and she’s more than happy and proud to be with me.
She does enjoy my company, and I do appreciate that she goes through a bit of trouble to see me. I wanted a break before, and she got very upset, became depressed and cried. So I know I do mean something to her. What’s weird is she models, and flies around alot, but she doesn’t have a worldly view. Still, she’s only home 2-3 days a week, and usually one of those days is spent with me. Her father’s disapproval of me, is one of the reasons she doesn’t want to start a real relationship with me. I do think talking to her father is a good idea, but we’re not even officially a couple, so I can’t do that right now. And not seeing her isn’t an answer…honestly, I am so happy when she’s around, and pretty sad when she’s not. I know, she’s in her 20s, and can make her own decisions, but she values her community’s opinion. How can we overcome this?
